I'm not quite certain their are pre-requisites to being a successful blogger. Your success varies greatly by your goals. Some bloggers use their blog as an online journal, not even caring how many followers they have. On the other end of the spectrum, there are others who blog for a living, and do well at it!
In general though, I know, these are the 5 reasons I will never be able to make a living at being a blogger.
1.) I am inconsistent. My life does not allow me the opportunity to post consistently. I post when I can, about what I want. Readers want new content. Quality content. And on a regular basis.
2.) I do not like myself enough. I hate having my picture taken. I am not saying all bloggers are vain. Their self portraits and what I wore outfits are adorable. I'd love to have that kind of confidence to plaster myself all over my blog. But I don't. Therefore, you will see very few photos of me on here. And you will never get a VLOG from me. Never!
3.) I make some amazing food. Many dishes of which, I'd love to share on the blog, however, I never remember to take photos of the step by step process and then just give up altogether. I once read, a good post should ALWAYS have pictures. So because of my lack of picture taking, my poor readers miss out on some super yummy recipes!
4.) I am not trendy. My fashion sense is, hmmmmm, lacking? I definitely cannot do skinny jeans, and I don't keep up with what is in style. I don't have cable tv or satelite so I cannot blog about reality tv shows or breaking news. I haven't read 50 Shades of Grey, and do not intend to. Yeah, I'm just kind of boring like that.
5.) At least for the time being will not pay to advertise on other blogs or sites. In my very early rookie days of blogging, all of 4 or 5 months ago. I paid $40 for a 3 month ad on a blog that was recommended to me. I got virtually nothing from it. No sales, no views, it was awful and so disappointing. I love doing ad swaps though (hint hint: still have some room in July!!) For now, I am not going to invest my hard earned money into advertising. And I won't pay for a blog design just yet either.
So there you go. This is exactly why I am a horrible blogger. Oh damn it, there is no photo for this post. So I leave you with this....
P.S. Bonus Reason... I do not have InstaGram...
haha I love your humor. I think you are a great writer and I love your blog designs. :)
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you, posting pics of yourself IS scary, and as someone who only recently (within the last 4 months) started doing what I wore posts, to go with my weight loss journey... it IS scary! I thought I would never do those kinds of posts either... but as they say, never say never!
Also I totally feel you on paying for advertisement that doesnt pay off! Grr Ive spent lots of money for an ad and got NOTHING, and Ive swapped for free and got MANY views/sales. Its really all in who you advertise with, and you gotta pick who you see that actually HELPS other blogs. I wasnt always so "wise" with avertising with my sponsors in the early stages. But From my experiences with advertising with others, I know now how I want to advertise FOR others. And I always make sure it is worth it for those who pay me! Bums me out that not everyone feels the same.... at least those who are bigger bloggers, who have been around longer and should know better. :(
correction blog design, not designs. LOL
ReplyDeleteI don't have instagram, either, lol. Apparently, my phone isn't cool enough for apps.
ReplyDeleteAs to ads and such... both paid and swapping is completely hit or miss in my mind, and when you find a blog that works, you stick with it.
While you may not post daily, I love reading when you do. And just think... not all of us have time to read daily, so you're golden anyway :)

Thank you both. My ancient lap top is giving me a "javascript" error when I try to hit reply! I appreciate both of your comments greatly! And for taking the time to leave them. =) It's folks like you that keep me bloggin!
ReplyDeleteGirl, I don't even know what instagram is. I suppose I should find out since it appears to be all the rage. That quote is hilarious! And you are SO CUTE!!! More pictures, lady!
ReplyDeleteIt's ok, I'm a bad blogger too, for many of the same reasons. By the way, I love that graphic, I've seen it a few times and it still cracks me up!!
ReplyDeleteHaha! If all this is the case I must be a bad blogger too! The only thing I have on here is consistency. Because I work at a job that allows me unlimited time on the computer (while I wait for calls to come in) I post every week day.
ReplyDeleteI'm spend only marginal amounts on blog ads and make sure I feel like I can get something from it before spending it. I'd hate to pay for a huge ad and get nothing. Sorry about that girl!
I am glad to hear I'm not the only blogger lol! =) Reply button still giving me a javascript error. #dark ages #neednewcomputer

Great post! I hate taking photos of food, just because I'm bad at it, my hubs isn't too patient behind the camera, and I so far haven't paid for sponsorship.
ReplyDeleteHilarious! I'm unfortunately with you on most of those! :) I found you on the Summer Mom Bop Blog Hop and will be following! Also, I'm totally interested in an ad swap. Do you still have room for July or maybe August???

I'm with you on lots of these! I hate having my pic taken, which means that whenever I sponsor people, etc. and they ask for a pic of me, I give them one of the same 2 photos I always use! I found you via the GFC blog hop and am happy to be your newest follower! I'd love for you to follow me back at http://www.two-in-diapers.blogspot.com. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha I love this post! I can really relate. I often feel very inadequate when I look at other bloggers. But you know what? I love blogging. It's one of my favourite past times, and to me that makes me successful. :) We define our own success, that's for sure. And I think your blog is super cute, you do not need to pay for a blog design. Also, your profile photo is adorable. :)
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks so much for doing an ad swap with me! It is such a wonderful idea that I hadn't ever really thought much about. I saw it this morning, but I can't spot it now...
